S4:E16 How to Plan a Memorable Fly Fishing Trip

Planning a memorable fly fishing trip is pretty easy if you do a few things right. There are factors that you can control, of course, and then there is the weather – and whether the fish are in the mood. In this episode, we lift the veil on our do-it-yourself fishing trips. Which is probably not saying much. However, we have a lot of trips under our proverbial wading belt. All trips are memorable, we suppose, but some trips stick in our minds because we figured out how to catch fish while enjoying every day on the trip and keeping costs to a minimum.

GREAT STUFF FROM OUR LISTENERS. At the end of each episode, we often include a feature called “Great Stuff from Our Listeners.” It’s the last segment of each episode, where Steve reads one of the comments from our listeners or readers. We enjoy hearing from you, and appreciate your advice, wisdom, and fly fishing experiences.

  1. Hello gentlemen! Keep up the great work. I stumbled upon your podcast late last year and have been enjoying listening to both the current episodes as well as those from early on. I now have most of my friends listening too!
On the topic of how to plan a memorable trip, one of the things that I do is make a checklist that can be modified (electronic is best) depending upon the destination and duration of the particular trip. Even veteran pilots use a checklist before every flight, and many of us are spending hard earned money and even more valuable time off from work to pursue or fly fishing adventures so taking the time to develop and use a checklist has proven to be an effective way to ensure that you do not leave any of the essentials behind, forget to finalize hotel reservations, or leave the bear spray in the closet at home. I use an app on my phone/ipad called Packing Pro, and I now have refined packing lists for all sorts of fun activities.
    Keep up the great work!
