Fly fishing seems different in kind from other outdoor sports. There’s something healing about a day on the water. It’s hard to describe to someone who has never fly fished. It’s an escape from reality. Or maybe fly fishing is reality, and it’s a return to sanity. In this episode, we discuss The Healing Properties of Fly Fishing.

I completely agree with this podcast! A few years ago, my son who was 2 at the time, was diagnosed with brain cancer. My wife and I life changed forever that day. Within 24 hours of his diagnoses, we was getting the cancer taken out. Through out the next year, the only thing that would “get me away” from that part of my life, was fly fishing. When I had the chance to escape for a hour or so, I focused on what the fish were eating, where I needed to cast my fly in the run I was at, and so forth. For those brief moments, I was able to heal myself mentally.
That was 7 years ago, and my son now is doing fantastic! You can’t tell he had to battle cancer at such a young age. We are very blessed.
Keep up the great job with the podcasts, I look forward to listening to them every week!
Thanks, Quinn. I had a hard time reading your post without tearing up. I can’t imagine going through what you and your wife went through. So great to hear that your son is doing well. Thank you for your kind words.
